The Sarvajanik Shikshan Sanstha observed that Mulund West and its outskirts have become heavily populated by socially and economically challenged section of the society where young population is forced to give up study and take up some occupation to support themselves and their family. Keeping this problem in mind, the Sanstha started the night college with Commerce stream named as Sarvajanik Shikshan Sanstha’s Adv. V. B. Deshpande College of Commerce (Night) in the academic year 1999-2000 with the purpose of providing opportunity for higher education to employed and needy students of the society and also to offer continuity in education to Sanstha’s Junior College of Commerce students which is attached to Smt. N.G. Purandare High School. Prof. P.V. Venugopalan took the responsibility as Incharge Principal. His efforts and dedication helped in the up-liftment of the college.

The Sarvajanik Shikshan Sanstha’s Adv. V. B. Deshpande College of Commerce (Night) is housed in Smt. N. G. Purandare School Building having its office on the 4th floor. The college has intake Capacity of 120 Students to F.Y.B.Com, S.Y.B.Com and T.Y.B.Com Classes each. The college is now receiving grant-in-aid from the government. There by higher education can be provided at affordable fees to the students. Sanstha chose to start commerce stream with a main objective to provide qualified personnel to commercial capital of India – Mumbai. Night college is a great help to the working students to pursue higher education while working in day time. It provides good academic environment with Library and dedicated teachers. Guest lectures are also conducted by experts. Facilities for sports (Indoor & Outdoor), cultural and other co-curricular activities are available. Students are always encouraged to participate in various intra and inter- collegiate competitions. Though there is no separate course for value education, as and when opportunities come teachers try to sensitize the students about the moral values. The purpose of all these activities of the college is to enable needy students to acquire higher education, make them self reliant, foster global competencies, develop leadership qualities, sensitize the students about social and environmental responsibilities, all-round personality development and to make them responsible citizens and good human beings.
